Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condemned the Israeli attack in Palestine, stating that human rights are being violated in Palestine on a daily basis. This has to stop. We don’t want this massacre, this war.
On Monday (30th October), during a discussion on the general motion presented under rule 147 in the Parliament, the Prime Minister made these remarks.
Expressing her support for an independent Palestinian state, she said, "Our demand is to acknowledge the legitimate rights of the Palestinians. They should get back their country. That's what we want." At this time, the Prime Minister strongly urged the opening of service corridors in Palestine.
Referring to the fact that women and children are the most affected in Palestine, the Prime Minister said, "What's the situation there today? We hear about human rights. We hear a lot. The inhumane conditions our Palestinian brothers are enduring. Mothers considered hospitals safe and took refuge there with their children. But the Israeli army attacked even there. They bombed and killed women and children. A heinous act has taken place. There are no words to condemn it. How could they attack a place like a hospital? How could they kill people?"
Citing past incidents of attacks, Sheikh Hasina said, "Such massacres have been carried out before too. They killed women, children, and the elderly. They kill children thinking they will grow up to become warriors. I have voiced my protests against these massacres in whichever forum I have been to. We can never accept such incidents. As a human, as a mother, it's our duty to protest. We don’t want this kind of massacre, this war."
Asserting Bangladesh's support for the Palestinians, the Prime Minister said, "From Bangladesh, we have already sent medicines, food, and supplies for women and children. But there is no way to get it there. We have sent it to Egypt. They have received it. They will deliver it from there. The most unfortunate thing is that they aren’t allowing anything, food, or medicine there. They have been blocked on all sides by the Israeli army. What is this! Such attacks on women, children, and hospitals don’t happen in any war. They are not being provided with food. But today, everything is being blocked there, and inhuman torture is being inflicted. The people there are crying out."
After this incident, adequate measures have been taken from Bangladesh, the Prime Minister said, "We try to stand by people. Whenever there are human rights violations and massacres, we protest through the United Nations. That's our policy. We have sponsored the ceasefire proposal at the UN with the Arab League. 120 countries supported us there. We want the indefinite service corridor to be opened. So that the people there can survive. They are causing trouble by closing that service corridor. What is happening to the people of Palestine by Israel can never be accepted."
Bangladesh has held meetings with representatives of the OIC countries, the Prime Minister said, "I have discussed with them. On how to stand by the people of Palestine. I brought up this issue in my speech during my visit to Brussels. There were representatives and heads of European countries there. I said there, whatever you do, stop the war. War doesn’t bring prosperity to people. Stop the arms race. The arms race brings destruction to people. I called for stopping the massacre of women and children. Spend the money of the arms competitors on education and medical treatment of the children. Then the people of the world will not suffer."
There used to be a lot of Palestine, but now there is only a small portion left, the Prime Minister said, "It was a large country, but slowly it was encroached upon and now they have only a tiny part left. Yet there was a proposal for a two-state formula. They are not even accepting that."
Earlier, former Foreign Minister and ruling party MP Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali raised a motion of condemnation in the National Parliament regarding the Israeli military aggression in Gaza.
After the Prime Minister's speech, the motion was unanimously adopted in the Parliament.
The adopted motion reads, "The Bangladesh National Parliament strongly condemns the brutal massacre of the Palestinian people by Israel and demands an immediate halt to this killing. The Palestinian people are experiencing extreme human rights violations. This parliament calls on all conscious people, nations, and organizations in the world to stand up for human rights in Palestine and strongly calls on the Muslim Ummah to actively stand up to protect the Palestinians and establish their rightful sovereign state."
